Political Wars
Political Wars
Year: 2040
The world has fractured beyond repair. Years of extreme political polarization have erupted into global conflict. The traditional concept of politically diverse different nations have dissolved, replaced by an ideological state. Countries now openly declare allegiance to either Global Liberalism or Global Conservatism, shaping their entire societies around these ideologies.
The Liberal States: The United States, Canada, Western Europe, and parts of Oceania have declared themselves "Liberal Republics." They pass laws mandating liberalism as the supreme ideology. Citizens are required to pledge allegiance to progressive values such as diversity, equality, and social justice. Dissenters labeled as "reactionaries" face public shaming, exile, or even execution under the guise of "protecting democracy."
The Conservative States: Russia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia unite under the banner of "Conservative Nation States," enforcing traditional values, nationalism, and religious orthodoxy. Russia passed the Moral Sovereignty Act, mandating strict adherence to conservative doctrine. Anyone caught spreading liberal ideas is declared a "cultural heretic" and punished through brutal crackdowns.
Both sides weaponized their ideologies like religions during the Reformation, launching propaganda campaigns, forming secret police, and purging "heretics" within their borders. Political allegiance is no longer a choice, it's a matter of life and death. Underground facilities exist on both sides for "re-educating" dissenters. In the Liberal States, prisoners are subjected to VR simulations designed to "deconstruct biases," while the Conservative States force captives into brutal labor camps.
In Liberal states, citizens are brought before "Progressive Courts" to confess minor offenses like "microaggressions" or being related to a known conservative. The trials mirror historical witch hunts, ending in public "cancellations" or executions. Libraries in Conservative states filled with liberal literature are burned in mass rallies, with officials giving fiery speeches about "protecting tradition."
Tensions explode when a small, neutral country in the Alps, Switzerland, refuses to align with either bloc, declaring itself the "Free Thought State." Both the Liberals and Conservatives see this as an ideological threat and launch covert operations to seize control. A failed assassination of Switzerland's leader by a liberal spy ignites a full-scale war. Both ideological superpowers invade neutral Switzerland, with Bern turned into a dystopian battleground where drones drop bombs while soldiers clash in the streets and massacre civilians. The climax features both factions launching nuclear weapons in a final bid for ideological dominance, realizing too late that their war has doomed humanity
The world is in ruins. The ideological war ends not with victory but mutual destruction. A few survivors, disillusioned former loyalists from both sides, crawl from the wreckage.
A crumbling monument bears the inscription:
"In the end, it wasn’t belief that destroyed us. It was certainty."
